Last year was my first time fundraising for my walk in memory of my parents and it was because of you all that I was able to raise over $9,000 for OUR HOUSE. This year I will be walking again and I know with your help I can reach my new goal: $10,000.
I know most of you know my involvement with OUR HOUSE. I have volunteered in so many capacities: intake person, group leader, Camp Erin – LA cabin big buddy, board member and a chairperson as well.
Helping others on their journey of hope and healing is so gratifying, I know how much I would have benefited from the groups when my mother, Blanche, and father, Stanley both died. I could have been with others who felt the same way, but I knew no one who was going through the same thing and felt awful that I was burdening ( in my own head, not theirs) my loved ones and friends with the journey of my grief. I was 45. Can you imagine what if feels like to be a child of 5, 10, or 15 and having to deal with the death of your parent? Or a young widow with a baby? Or a parent mourning their child? That’s one of the reasons I fell in love with OUR HOUSE. There was and is a place for these children, as well as adults, to be with others who are going through the difficult journey of grief. I know that I still am on that journey and miss and think of them often.
If you are in town, please join us for this day which will be wonderful, filled with love, plenty of food, and to top it off, will have the coolest music in town spun by my son, Michael, aka, D.J. Sherpa, who will be running in memory of his grandparents. Michael is also an Associate Board member of OUR HOUSE.
Please help me reach my goal by donating to my page. I sooooo appreciate all your support.
