Inspired by 5 year old Andrew, who has completed two Spartan races for rescue, A Pathway to Hope has formed a team to support Andrew's special project to rescue seniors, "Katie's Hope."
Since Andrew's last race, Pathway lost a beloved member of our family, and Andrew lost his sweet 12+ year old "puppy" Katie. Katie took her final journey into the couds on June 29th. Katie had overcome the hurdles of extreme neglect, mammary cancer, a radical bilateral mastectomy, heartworm disease and limited mobility with an amazing spirit and enthusiasm for life. In honor of beautiful Katie, Team Pathway will race the miles and tackle the obstacles of the Super Spartan Race with Katie's wind in our sails.
Please support Team Pathway as we race on September 7th for Katie's Hope, in honor of Katie and inspired by a very special boy and his dog.
Katie's Memorial: When Katie came to us 2 years ago, many would say it was to end her life comfortably. But Katie came to live. Katie lived a lifetime of love, adventures, happiness and snuggles with us. She adapted quickly into our lives and snuck her way into our hearts. After 7 years of fostering well over 100 cats and dogs, Katie managed to be the only one to steal a spot in our family. She was just that special. Katie welcomed Aaron into our family and he grew along side of her. She loved when the kids doted on her - while the others would walk away, Katie was happy for all the love and attention she could soak up. Despite her physical limitations, Katie would get bursts of energy and tear through the woods. She loved her walks and hikes. Katie loved to eat. She would howl in excitement every time she heard her food hit the dish or the clink of the cookie jar. Katie loved her family, and she loved her life.
Katie's body failed her, but her mind stayed sharp - as sharp as our quirky, funny girl could get. She was happy right up until the end, stealing food, enjoying lots of snuggles and calling out when she needed us for a little boost. We were blessed to be able to be home with her as she began to near the end, and while she struggled some, she never suffered. Allowing her to go peacefully was a wonderful gift. Katie had lived, she had loved, and she had a beautiful life. Katie went into the clouds last night after peacefully laying in our arms for hours. She trusted and loved us with her whole heart - it was a beautiful, yet heartbreaking experience.
Run free pretty girl, and thank you for sharing your love, your spirit and your beautiful heart. Our family is forever changed and forever missing you...
