The Story

Under the leadership of associates at leading New York law firms, The Legal Aid Society’s Associates’ Campaign raises awareness and vital funds for the Society’s Civil Practice which depends on private funding to provide legal assistance to the most vulnerable New Yorkers. Funds raised through this campaign account for nearly one-third of all individual contributions raised for our Civil Practice each year.

Associates who begin their relationship with Legal Aid by contributing through the Associates’ Campaign continue to support our mission for years to come. Some of our biggest volunteers and supporters, including many of our past and current board members, were introduced to Legal Aid by participating in this campaign.

We are proud of the exceptional accomplishments of past campaign participants, and we are grateful for the unwavering support of the New York legal community as a whole. Thanks to last year’s donors, the Civil Practice handled more than 49,000 cases benefiting nearly 120,000 children and adults in NYC living at or below the poverty line.

Of course, there is always more work to be done, and more clients in desperate need of our help. Your support can make all the difference.

We hope that you will join us for the 2014 Associates’ Campaign.

About The Legal Aid Society

The Legal Aid Society is a private, not-for-profit legal services organization, the oldest and largest in the nation, dedicated since 1876 to providing quality legal representation to low-income New Yorkers. It is dedicated to one simple but powerful belief: that no New Yorker should be denied access to justice because of poverty. The Society handles 300,000 individual cases and matters annually and provides a comprehensive range of legal services in three areas: the Civil, Criminal and Juvenile Rights Practices. Unlike the Society's Criminal and Juvenile Rights Practices, which are constitutionally mandated and supported by government, the Civil Practice relies heavily on private contributions.
