BENEFITING: Sylvia's Students Foundation Inc
EVENT DATE: May 30, 2014
Through this campaign, we are aiming to provide food, textbooks, student and teacher supplies and other necessities to the Nkoile Primary School in Kenya in 2014. Many of us take such items for granted; however, they are necessary in order for these children to receive a quality education. In addition, we will be starting a business venture with the community to allow them to be self-sustaining.
Below, please find an estimated breakout of our $25,000 goal:
$11,000: This would provide lunch for the entire year for approximately 400 students. In many cases, this is the ONLY meal these students will receive for the entire day. At times, their one meal is the only thing keeping students coming to school.
$4,000: Textbooks. Currently, as many as six children are using a textbook at a time. This ratio is certainly not conducive to a great learning environment. In 2014, we hope to get the ratio down to 2 students per textbook. Eventually, we would like to be able to fund textbooks for all individual students.
$2,000: Miscellaneous supplies for the school, students and teachers. Students often do not have writing utensils, paper or notebooks. Teachers also require notebooks to keep records, bulletin boards, chalk, and many other simple supplies which are lacking.
$1,000: Reading books. Nkoile Primary’s library needs to be improved upon. Reading is a vital skill in order to succeed in today’s society. The students require reading books at a variety of levels as well as languages (English, Swahili and Maasai).
$5,000: This will fund a portion of the flights for the Sylvia's Students team to help them bring over the many generous donations of books, supplies, and clothing. In addition, the team will work on repairing and improving the school grounds as well as solidifying the relationships with the community and students. The team will consist of Christine Camanzo, Beth Croughan, Steve Struck and Lauren Camanzo.
$1,000: This will begin to fund the bead program which Sylvia's Students hopes will get community members more involved in the betterment of the school. By providing supplies necessary to make necklaces and bracelets for sale, Sylvia's Students hopes to offer a product in exchange for donations.
$1,000: This will fund on-the-ground maintenance necessities for when the Sylvia's Students team travels to Kenya. For example, flowers for sidewalks and paint for touch-ups and repairs.
YOUR DONATIONS ARE TAX DEDUCTIBLE. Thank you for helping the amazing students of Nkoile Primary School and helping to GIVE THEM A FUTURE!
