One in five children in the Bay Area lives in poverty, with its inherent stresses, and they need our help!
On May 31, I will be joining yoga teacher Deb Burkman at The Mindful Body to dedicate my practice to these kids in need and raise as much money as possible for Headstand (Headstand.org), to better serve them. Please donate if you can.
Headstand is a San Francisco-based non-profit that reduces the debilitating impact of toxic stress by teaching yoga, mindfulness, and character education to children in Bay Area public schools where up to 80 percent of families live below the poverty line. Established in 2008, Headstand has served some 5,000 low-income children through mandatory yoga and mindfulness classes, supported by school administrators and funded largely through donations. The Headstand program has been shown to reduce stress and anxiety while improving self-esteem, readiness to learn, self-control, and focus. (Headstand has partnered with UCSF on a forthcoming study expected to show its positive benefits.)
Please consider sponsoring our 108-minute class--your contribution of $1/minute would be $108, which sure sounds auspicious! Any amount is welcome.
This event is taking place at studios across the Bay Area in May and is sponsored by Yoga Works, Union Yoga, YogaFlowSF, The Mindful Body, Moxie Yoga, and Red Dragon Yoga studios.
