One in five children in the Bay Area is affected by poverty. Headstand, established in 2008, has served some 5,000 children through classes taught as a mandatory part of the curriculum at public schools in San Francisco, Sunnyvale, and San Lorenzo. Headstand provides yoga and mindfulness classes as part of K-12 curriculum in low-income Bay Area schools, including the school where I teach, Mission Prep! The yoga and mindfulness classes that Headstand provides have been shown to reduce stress and anxiety while improving self-esteem, readiness to learn, self-control, and focus.
During the month of May, I will be participating in the Headstand Challenge, which will involve doing yoga for 108 minutes. (!) Please consider sponsoring me for $1/minute, or even just $.50/minute. Or, any other amount you can contribute is greatly appreciated. Together we can reverse the toxic effects that stress has on young children.
Thank you for support!
This event is sponsored by Yoga Works, Union Yoga, YogaFlowSF, The Mindful Body, Moxie Yoga, and Red Dragon Yoga studios.
