BENEFITING: CLARK ATLANTA UNIVERSITY INC
CAU this year celebrates its 25th anniversary as one of the nation’s foremost research institutions. Our global impact has touched innumerous lives. On this happy occasion, I’m writing to ask you to please reach back and touch the life of a deserving CAU student.
The University’s reputation stands not only upon exemplary academic instruction, innovation and discovery, but also upon a strong sense of community building and advocacy in local, regional, national and international forums. Still, all is not as it should be in our own community. In today’s economic climate, financial obstacles too often render our students “locked out” of personal, educational and professional possibilities.
CAU inhabits a particularly difficult economic landscape, which makes it all the more challenging to address increasing student need. Traditional sources of support presently are inadequate in addressing our students’ individual and collective financial obligations. This is particularly devastating since our students already face what we refer to as the “perfect storm of financial abandonment,” or what some might call “three financial strikes”—high teen unemployment, Parent Plus Loan disqualification and, for many of our students and their families, Pell Grant ineligibility.
Fortunately, our 25th anniversary celebration provides an opportunity for you to assist students currently facing economic hardship. We are seeking your financial support to assist them, so that they can continue their pursuit of a college degree uninterrupted. Whether you are an “active alum” or not, we are urging you to support CAUAA’s efforts to aggressively fundraise on behalf of these students, most of whom have immediate, dire financial need, yet choose to pursue excellence despite myriad odds against them.
The CAU 2014 Scholarship Drive
A 25th Anniversary Scholarship Drive conducted along four separate tracks -- alumni, the CAU community, the small business community and external constituencies, including the United Methodist Church--is underway and will continue over the course of the next six months, concluding with the end of the fiscal year, June 30, 2014. The goal of the scholarship drive is to raise an additional $3 million. Alumni are joining across the country to help raise $1 million of that total. This is your chance to see the difference you make. To create a win for CAU and to be part of something important!
Won’t you please consider a gift to support scholarships for our worthy students and help us to achieve 100 percent alumni participation? All we ask is that you give what you can, in addition to your traditional annual gift to the University.
Thank you in advance for your consideration and support.
P.S. Gifts of $100 or more receive a 25th Anniversary lapel pin!
