EVENT DATE: Apr 05, 2014
Walk to Live SunSmart
Walk 3 miles with us to discover tips on how to Live SunSmart while raising money for the Live SunSmart Foundation's programs on skin cancer awareness. It will be a fun day in a beautiful park setting. Bring your friends!
Skin cancer does not discriminate against race, gender, age or ethnicity and is one of only a few cancers were occurrances are on the rise. While things have improved for other major cancers, death rates from skin cancer are getting worse. Over 50 million Americans (1 in 5) alive today will have skin cancer at some point in their lives. Ray Festa died November 8th 1992 at he young age of 53 - 21 years ago and we have been trying to raise awareness on the importance of early detection and prevention of skin cancer so others do not have to suffer our same fate. Our mission is clear – we want everyone to have fun in the sun while enjoying a healthy outdoor lifestyle but just want them to be empowered with the knowledge of how to do it safely – Live SunSmart! The key to survival is prevention and early detection because when found early it is nearly 100% curable. We are making some strides but in order to continue our work and spread the message further, we need resources!
Make the application of sunscreen and other sun safe practices a normal part of your everyday routine.
