ORGANIZER: LAZAREX CANCER FOUNDATION
2015 will be the 4th time I've participated in the SF Marathon, twice as a half marathon (2008&2013), the 2014 full marathon, and then of course the 2015 marathon.
2008 was my first race ever. That event as well as that day marked when I began my fitness journey. Up to that point I was active as far as lifting weights and the occasional basketball league, but I still lived an unhealthy lifestyle. I ate very badly, I was a 2 pack a day smoker, I was overweight, and in all honesty, I had no problem with it.
I was humbled that first race. I came in nearly last and I was gasping for air as if my life itself was escaping my body. Just as life felt like it was leaving me, I felt it being resurged. I was off track in those next few years but towards the end of 2011 I was able to change my ways and establish a more consistent healthy lifestyle. I consider this event the kickoff to the passion that I have for living an active life. It's only fitting that I use this event to hopefully better the lives of those around me.
My mother and my girlfriend are my inspiration. Because of them and their own personal battle. cancer has become a part of our lives. Though now the dark times are over, we use the experience to help fill us with light. We use what we've been through to grow stronger and closer as a family. When we hear or read about someone else's personal battle or mission to go and battle cancer, we feel the need to help those individuals in whatever best way we can. Whether that be through financial support, presence, or even a prayer, we feel that we should do what we can.
The Lazarex Cancer Foundation is ran by beautiful amazing people. We first connected with them last year when we were looking for a charity to help raise money for. They have the support system and the plan that we believe will make a difference. We know deep down in our hearts that what they do changes the personal life of the individuals whom they help and we know that that is enough to change their world. Lazarex Cancer Foundation helps provide hope and support in a caring environment and we stand behind what they're trying to accomplish.
The 2015 San Francisco Marathon is more than a race to me. It is a mission to help make a change and bring awareness. I have a goal set to raise over $4000 with the continued help of family, friends, and coworkers. Thank you for your help. God Bless you all!!
