THE STORY:

Hello! Thank you for visiting Chloe & my fundraising page!

The little nugget and I are going to be running the 5k (3.1 miles) at the San Francisco Marathon event on Sunday, July 26th with Team for Life!

We are running in honor of Connie & Cindy (Dad/Grandpa & Sissy/Aunt) and celebrating the fact that they are both cancer free! Connie had Stage 3 Colon Cancer & Cindy had Stage 3 Papillary Thyroid Cancer.

We are a family of runners & this summer we are looking to OUTRUN CANCER!  I did most of my running pre-tearing my ACL back in 2007 but after a few surgeries my knee is doing "better" and I figured this is a great chance to accomplish several things! Raising money for cancer patients to access life-saving treatment, a way for my daughter and I to do good together, a chance to celebrate life & share my dad/sister's stories. Me getting back into running is just an added perk.

The Lazarex Cancer Foundation helps end-stage cancer patients (all cancers/all ages) get matched with a clinical trial & then financially assists with the auxiliary costs of participating in clinical trials. 100% of every donation goes back to their organization. How cool is that?!

Clinical trials offer the best breakthrough cancer treatment available. Once a cancer patient has been told to "get their affairs in order" that is NOT the end of the road. This is when they need to contact Lazarex & see if there is a clinical trial out there that matches their cancer. Sounds easy right? It's not. There are over 10,000+ FDA approved clinical trials in the U.S. alone. Lazarex takes away the burden of a patient or their family having to sift through the thousands of trials to find a potential match.

A patient is then matched to a clinical trial! YAY! This is a second chance to try a treatment that could work! Clinical Trials are free to particpate in, traveling to & from them is not. Say a person lives in CA and their trial is in Texas. That means they need to fly to Texas, get a rental car, pay for a hotel, etc. just to get their treatment. Most people can't afford that! Especially on an on-going basis. This is where Lazarex steps in again. Lazarex helps pay for the travel costs associated with clinical trial participation. They believe that "the size of a person's checkbook should never get in the way of the type of treatment they receive". Not being able to afford Gas, or a rental car, parking or a plane ticket. Should NEVER get in the way of a person getting treatment. A train ride should never stand in the way of life.

Lazarex knows the value of a support network, so they also pay for a loved one to travel along with the patient.

Lazarex Cancer Foundation is the only non-profit out there that is helping to eliminate the patient barriers of participating in clinical trials. They directly help patients & indirectly help science. Why should you care about clinical trials? Because they are a ticket to a cure. Research is fantastic, but it has to be tested. Scientists are in desperate need of participants and a diverse pool of particpants at that! The cure can be sitting in the testing phase right now! But until it gets tested (like every other drug on the market) we will never have access to it.

Fun fact: The number one participant in clinical trials? Affluent, white men. As a whole that is the group with access to knowledge and the funds to participate. Lazarex levels the playing field. Let's face it, cancer treats everyone differently & it doesn't discriminate.
