For many of us, the holidays are a joyful time spent with family and friends. A time of celebration, thankfulness and hope. Traditions and memories are made during quality time together, much of which is centered around a full table and a shared meal.
For families struggling to put food on the table, the holiday spirit can be hard to feel over the pangs of hunger. The somber reality is that 1 in 7 people in Western Washington rely on food provided by Food Lifeline every year; 1 in 5 of which are children. For these families, the holidays are just another choice between buying food or paying rent. While $36,000 a year is considered a “living wage” for a family of 3 in Western Washington, 92% of those served by Food Lifeline’s partners make less than that. But with your help, we can put nourishing meals on everyone’s table, and restore hope to those facing the holidays without food.
The Holiday Meals Challenge is a wonderful way to build community spirit while helping Food Lifeline provide life-changing meals to families throughout Western Washington. It’s a great opportunity for families, friends, co-workers, organizations, and caring individuals to get together and compete to raise the most funds for ending hunger in our region. Each $1 you donate provides five nutritious meals through our network of local food banks, meal programs and shelters. By creating a virtual food drive, you can help Food Lifeline provide over 88,000 meals to your neighbors in Western Washington every day.
Won’t you help fill a neighbor’s table with the holiday spirit this season?
