Help low-income families and individuals purchase fresh, healthy, local food at two summer-to-fall farmers markets in Cambridge and the Cambridge Winter Farmers Market!

Funds raised will be used to match SNAP* benefits up to $15- that means if SNAP shoppers spend $15 in SNAP money they will receive $30 to spend at the market every week! In addition SNAP shopping lists and recipes will be available- good for shoppers on any budget! Plus, you’ll be keeping your food dollars in the local economy!

Here’s what 2016 SNAP customers in Cambridge are saying about SNAP matching:

“You would have to be crazy to not love the SNAP Match program. It provides me with the opportunity to buy more fresh fruits and vegetables” – Cambridge Elderly Resident

“I love the SNAP Match program because it helps me buy more fruits and vegetables for my family. I love to cook and provide my family with healthy vegetables. SNAP Match helps me because I can plan what I am going to cook for my family every week based on the affordable produce at the farmers market.” – Cambridge Mom

“The SNAP Match program helps me with buying more nutrient rich food. It is more difficult to afford fresh food from supermarkets so it’s great to have this opportunity from SNAP Match”     – Cambridge Student

“At farmers markets you can get more food for cheaper. SNAP Match is like a supplement, it really makes the difference between eating and not eating every week” – Disabled Cambridge Resident

Federal funding for SNAP faces constant political pressure and budget cuts, which limit healthy food choices for low-income families and individuals. Supplementing SNAP money with matching funds has been shown to make market produce more affordable in many communities, including Cambridge.

With your help, the Cambridge SNAP Match Coalition has successfully raised funds to support the Cambridge Winter Farmers Market as well as the summer to fall farmers markets on Mondays in Central Square and on Tuesdays at the Harvard’s Science Center.

*Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, formerly called “food stamps.” Based on maximum SNAP benefits:

**The Cambridge SNAP Match Coalition is a collaboration of the Cambridge Public Health Department, the City of Cambridge Community Development Department, Food for Free, Mass Farmers Markets, Harvard University, the Cambridge Community Center, and the Cambridge Community Foundation (acting as the coalition's fiscal sponsor).
