BENEFITING: CHILDRENS ADVOCACY CENTER OF SUFFOLK COUNTY INC
I am running the 119th Boston Marathon for the Children's Advocacy Center of Suffolk County (CAC) because I admire and support the life-changing work that the CAC does each and every day seeking justice for children and their families.
In April 2014, I made a promise – which was even memorialized on video – to run the Boston Marathon in 2015. I am excited to partner with the CAC to fulfill this goal while at the same time raising awareness and funds for a worthy cause that I have personally and professionally supported for many years.
The CAC provides a safe and welcoming place for children to talk about what’s happened to them and to find help and healing after abuse and exploitation. Every year the CAC works with over 1,300 child abuse victims by bringing together and working with police, prosecutors, social workers, advocates, medical and mental health professionals and others to provide high-quality, specialized services.
As a prosecutor, I have had the opportunity to see firsthand how our work touches both extremes of human nature: encountering unspeakable violence on the one hand, and the dignity, grace, and resilient spirit of victims and their families on the other.
While running a marathon is a tough endeavor, it cannot compare with the challenges that these children face. Yet, both require courage to take the first step. It is the CAC's unyielding dedication and commitment to making a difference every day in the lives of children and families that is a true marathon.
Your thoughtful support of a CAC Marathon Team Member tells children exposed to violence that they are not alone and that, as a community, we will support them on their journey of healing.
