BENEFITING: LAZAREX CANCER FOUNDATION
ORGANIZER: LAZAREX CANCER FOUNDATION
The Lazarex Cancer Foundation builds a bridge to hope dignity and life for cancer patients and their families. We provide financial assistance to defray the costs associated with patient participation in FDA clinical trials. Additionally, we help patients identify their clinical trial options and provide community education and outreach services. We help patients of all ages and walks of life, with all forms of cancer.
This year I decided to join this team and run for this wonderful organization in honor/memory of all those close to me that have been affected by all different types of cancer. I have had too many family members and friends affected by all forms of cancer. The closest to me was my courageous brother Gustavo. Who has beaten lymphoma and has been cancer free since October 2013. He is my inspiration and who keeps me motivated to push myself to stay active and healthy. For this race I will be dedicating my miles as follows:
MILE 1 - Which is the beginning is for my uncle Gabriel or as we call him Tio Willie, who was recently diagnosed with Prostate Cancer and is starting his battle to beat this disease.
MILE 2 - For my cousin's son Jafet, who lost his battle with Brain cancer in 2012 at the young age of 12. His battle ended too soon in life.
MILE 3 - For a close family friend's son Jorgito, who lost his battle with Leukemia at the young age of 13. His life ended too soon.
MILE 4 - For my friend America's mother, who lost her battle with Breast cancer in 1994. She was a wonderful mother and individual who is missed but is in our hearts always.
MILE 5 - As I was 5 years old when my paternal grandfather Jose, lost his battle with Throat cancer over 30 years ago. I remember him vaguely but i will always have him in my heart.
MILE 6 - For my aunt Chata, who lost her battle to cancer when I was 1 year old. She was in her early 20's and had a great heart. She is greatly missed and I am glad that she got to hold me and take care of me before she left us.
MILE 7 - My toughest mile where I need the greatest strength to continue is for my Aunt Graciela or as we called her Tia Chela, who lost her battle with Ovarian cancer in 2002. She was a strong and beautiful woman that fought with all her strength to keep on going. During this mile she gives me that strength to keep going and get to the finish.
MILE 8 - For my friend Ely's mother, who lost her battle with Leukemia too soon after being diagnosed. She is greatly missed and heaven now has another angel.
MILE 9 - For all those who have been affected by cancer and have lost their battles.
MILE 10 - For all Cancer survivors, who continue to fight with so much courage and strength.
The last 3.1 miles or 5K - For my brother Gustavo, who was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 2013. He beat this disease and has been cancer-free since October 2013. He was my inspiration to start running and he keeps me going. And best of all he is now my running buddy and even faster than me. I love you hermanito.
Please help me raise funds for this great organization that seeks to continue to find different treatments for all types of cancer so that one day I will be dedicating each mile to a survivor and we will not lose any more loved ones to any forms of cancer.
