BENEFITING: THE IRONMAN FOUNDATION
ORGANIZER: THE IRONMAN FOUNDATION
EVENT: TEAM IMF
EVENT DATE: Oct 03, 2015
I have been enjoying triathalons for the past 15 years. Last year I was able to complete my first Ironman race which is the MacDaddy of all triathalons (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and 26.2 mile run). I was so proud to have finally crossed an Ironman off of my bucket list that I signed up for my second immediately after.
The night before my second Ironman in Maryland, at 10:30 p.m., when my nerves were at their peak, my loving daughter decided it was time for an emergency appendectomy! As I sat the next morning staring at her in her hospital bed, so glad that she was OK and so frustrated that I spent 7 months training for an appendectomy, I laughed and realized Karma was trying to tell me something.
When Karma talks its best to listen...Now I have decided to put my love for the sport to good use and, instead of racing for myself, race for a charity. I am partnering up with Ironman Foundation and committed to raise $6000 for their charity.
When I looked into the Ironman Foundation I was really pleased with what I found out because it is committed to giving back to the local communities where the Ironman Races take place. Not only did that local community in Maryland take such good care of my daughter, but the local townspeople essentially shut the town down for 2-3 days so that the racers can do their thing.
I was really happy to learn that the Ironman Foundation donated $1.2 million dollars to the local communities in 2014 alone. They provide real change to real people such as: KEEN in Phoenix, AZ who delivered 1500 hours of sports and recreation centers to 106 children with disabilities and Interfaith of the Woodlands in Texas who provided 133 families and 550 individuals in crisis with 266 bags of perishable and non-perishable food items.
I can swim, bike and run on my own, but I could use some help meeting my fundraising goal. Please do not feel that you have to donate- there is no pressure at all! But if you were going to make any charitable donations this year, why not donate to the Ironman Foundation?
The training has taken on a whole new enjoyment for me now that I am trying to raise money for charity. I am really looking forward to meeting my fundraising goals!
