Ebola Orphans - Help with Life after Ebola
Africa Heartwood, already operating an orphanage in Liberia, has been approved by the government to take in 5 Ebola orphans and possibly more in the future. Africa Heartwood is a grass roots volunteer based organization. All donations will go directly to the care of the children: housing, clothing, social rehabilitation, and education. Eilene and I personally visited the orphanage last year in Liberia meeting with staff and seeing their facilities.
The Ebola epidemic has taken a heartbreaking toll on children. Estimated numbers exceed 2,000 orphans in Liberia alone. While the government plans to place orphans with foster parents there will still be children with no home to go to. Ebola orphans experience trauma, high distress, marginalization and are at risk for physical abuse, teenage pregnancy and being forced to work.
