Thank you for supporting the Virginia Run for the Fallen!!
JOIN US IN REMEMBERING AND HONORING YOUR FALLEN HERO !! Let us do all the HEAVY LIFTING FOR YOU: Please choose a hero on our honor wall, click DONATE on the right -> to add your message of tribute in support of Gold Star families as our Core Team runs over 245+ miles in four days to thank over 378 families of fallen Virginia veterans! WE WILL DELIVER YOUR TRIBUTE MESSAGE IN PERSON to your hero's family on the 4-day run!
From 30 April-3 May, for the third year in a row, I have the privilege of running with a group of active duty and retired military Core Team runners over 245 miles from Joint Expeditionary Base-Fort Story/Va Beach to Arlington Cemetery/Lot 60 to honor Virginia's fallen military members and their surviving Gold Star Families at each mile. At every mile, each of our Gold Star families will receive a personal message of tribute, rememberance, and thanks along with a short but solemn flag salute. Proceeds from this tribute challenge run go to Honor and Remember, Inc.; an organization dedicated to remembering our fallen heroes and their surviving Gold Star families.
WHO ARE YOUR HEROES? I AM PERSONALLY HONORING THESE GUYS:
- USNA '81 classmate CAPT Bob Dolan USN, a long time Virginia resident, died in the 9-11 Pentagon attack while serving in the Navy Command Center. Bob left his wife Lisa, daughter Rebecca, and son Beau. Our USNA class of 1981 lost one of many of our best in service to our country.
- Local Fairfax Station hometown hero PFC Dillon M. Jutras USA-Ranger died in Iraq in 2005. Dillon left a loving family, parents LTC Pierre and Julia Jutras, older sister Heather, and two younger brothers, Dustin and Hunter - plus a wonderfully devoted extended family who gathers a huge team together to also run the Army 10 Miler each year in Dillon's honor.
- PFC Walter E. (Bud) Dillon USA (WWII Battle of Bulge/Ardennes), my uncle whom we lost in December 2014. Bud was a long time Virginia resident, a true hero to us all for his actions in the bloody combat of the Battle of the Bulge in the Ardennes forest, where he was critically injured in the battle. Bud was the best example of the Greatest Generation who believed in rising up and volunteering to fight for our Republic when our country needed him the most.
JOIN US ON THE 4-DAY RUN COURSE!! Come out and join us, run a mile or two (safely) with the team, or just simply find an honor marker and join a Gold Star family to show your support! Meet the families, parents, spouses, and children of the fallen, ask about their loved one's life and service, then thank the those families for giving us their hero who made the ultimate sacrifice for YOU! Please let me know if you plan to be out at an honor marker or wish to run with us during the run or at the closing ceremony at Arlington Cemetery Lot 60. I would like to greet and thank you in person at any honor marker, easy to find me, just look for the oldest runner out there!
Once again, I am thankful and humbled to run in 2015 Virginia Run for the Fallen to honor all our Virginia heroes and deeply appreciate your support!
