Please join me in raising funds for the second annual Backpack Drive benefiting the GO Project! Sponsored by the GO Project's Young Leadership Council, this initiative helps provide a new backpack filled with school supplies for each of our students.
The GO Project's students are under-resourced and academically-struggling elementary and middle school students, primarily from public schools on the Lower East Side and Chinatown. The backpacks and supplies they receive will last them through the entire school year. This request is time-sensitive as we need to begin ordering school supplies in mid-June. Supplies include backpacks, notebooks, folders, paper, markers, pens, pencils, pencil cases, dictionaries, scissors, erasers and more.
We have 615 students in-need of school supplies in 2015. The new backpacks will not only give students essential materials for their education, they will inject a sense of enthusiasm and pride that will fuel them through the summer and through the coming school year.
The cost is about $20 for each backpack with supplies:
Backpacks for 50 children = $1,000
Backpacks for 25 children = $500
Backpacks for 5 children = $100
Backpack for 1 child = $20
For this drive, the GO Project is partnering with High Water Women or HWW (http://www.highwaterwomen.org/), an organization that has been organizing backpack drives for almost ten years.
I appreciate your support and thank you for helping GO students receive a brand new filled backpack this summer!
