BENEFITING: It Gets Better Project
After the tragic deaths in Orlando, and the deaths of young men in Louisiana and Michigan, we still maintain hope that It Gets Better.
In September 2010, syndicated columnist and author Dan Savage created a YouTube video with his partner Terry Miller to inspire hope for young people facing harassment. In response to a number of students taking their own lives after being bullied in school, they wanted to create a personal way for supporters everywhere to tell LGBT youth that, yes, it does indeed get better.
That same year, Anthony had the opportunity to not only record his own deeply personal video linked to his journey, he also was blessed to be able to contribute to the It Gets Better book and campaign along with a number of other activists, poets and celebrities. Anthony still pinches himself that he's featured in a book with President Barack Obama, then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Meshell Ndegeocello, Ellen Degeneres and more.
As we approach the 6th anniversary of that very special campaign launch, Anthony and I thought it would be great to make a personal anniversary pledge. Against the backdrop of the Orlando terrorist act, and the continued racial tensions within our communities across the US, it is our belief that the sentiment and hope of the "It Gets Better Project" is still as relevant as it was back then.
