This year I had the opportunity to travel to Kenya and visit schools in Kilgoris with The Kilgoris Project (TKP). This area of Kenya is lush and green, with beautiful, steep hills and terraced land for cattle to graze. But the terrain of steep hills, coupled with the lack of schools, makes it difficult for kids to travel to their nearest school, with younger kids physically not able to make the journey. But TKP has provided schools in some of the these areas and education is happening for nearly 1000 kids in rural Kenya! Education is a privilege parents and students take very seriously. The communities have partnered with TKP to provide this opportunity for their children's futures.
In addition to education, TKP schools also provide clean drinking water, a daily nutritious hot meal, and regular wellness check-ups by a physician.
Did you know...$2,700 funds an entire TKP classroom for the whole school year! That's a teacher salary and benefits, in addition to enrichment programs, school equipment and supplies, and electronic books on Kindles (yes, Kindles!). When you donate to the Back-to-School campaign you give these kids a rich environment to learn and grow.
Thank you for joining our team, our movement, and our love for Kenya. One book, teacher, lesson and child at a time.
