BENEFITING: Colon Cancer Coalition Foundation
EVENT DATE: Oct 08, 2016
This event is planned in loving memory of Timothy Washington.
October 9th, 1969 – April 9th, 2014
Hello, I’m Timothy and this is my story...
Just like you I lived a normal healthy life. In fact, I was rarely sick…until February 2012. At the urging of one of my co-workers, I went to the doctor for a check-up. I was later diagnosed with Stage 4 Colorectal Cancer. I was 42.
My first surgery was scheduled April 4, 2012 to remove the cancer from my colon and rectum. I also had to undergo chemotherapy. After about 10 months, I was told my cancer was in remission and that I could go back to work.
In February 2014, I was informed that my cancer had returned and was scheduled for surgery on April 9th to remove the cancer from my liver. I was 44 years old.
Colon cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer. Although it is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States, few like to discuss it. So, what is colon cancer? Is it different from colorectal cancer? Understanding the disease is important both for those who have been diagnosed with it as well as those trying to prevent it. Please visit http://coloncancercoalition.org/get-educated/what-is-colon-cancer/ to learn more.
Please join my family in the 2016 Brinkley Memorial Walk scheduled October 8th. Funds raised at this event will be given to the Colon Cancer Coalition to promote colon cancer awareness, early detection, education, and patient support programs. Thank you for visiting my page.
