Project Description: Partner with Faith Lutheran Church and LHM—Guatemala in a unique outreach opportunity. The project includes morning sessions of VBS for 60 students of World’s Redeemer Lutheran located in Santiago Zamora ages 4-13. The construction portion of the project will include replacing the roof on 4 separate classroom buildings for grades 3-6. The afternoons will take the team to provide workshops to strengthen Project JOEL for 100 students ages 12-16 at a local public school, Villa Lobos Sur. The Project JOEL workshops are designed to teach Christian values to the students. Another unique part of the project is two “Marriage in God’s Way” workshops that will be led by Pastor Todd and Heather Biermann. These workshops will take place at World’s Redeemer Lutheran Church and Christ the King Lutheran Church.
Project Location: The Lutheran School “World´s Redeemer” is located in a small Mayan village called Santiago Zamora. They are trilingual teaching Kaqchikel-Spanish and English. The village is located approximately 6 miles from Antigua Guatemala. The population is around 7,000. The villages’ major focus is agriculture for the men and typical handicrafts for the women. Some of the crops grown include mania, sweet potato, maize and herbs. Project JOEL will take place and Villa Lobos Sur public junior high school for students ages 12-16. LHM—Guatemala provides Project JOEL to help students to find new opportunities to live a better quality of life by discovering and developing personal skills and teaching Christian morals and values.
