Mike's Summer Mission Trip to Haiti
Organized by: Mike Cho
EVENT DATE Jul 23, 2016
This summer, I have been blessed with an opportunity to go to HAITI!!! I am tremendously grateful and excited that God is allowing me to visit this beautiful country. I’m not saying that it is beautiful just because of their amazing beaches, palm trees, and clear water, but because of the genuine hearts of the Haitian people. I find joy in serving people in need of not only the physical necessities of life such as food, water, and clothing, but also in need of emotional, mental, and spiritual stability. To serve is the sole reason why I am going on this trip.
When I visited Haiti back in 2014 in order to help build a church after it was destroyed by the earthquake in 2010, I witnessed something that changed my perspective on Haiti. Although Haiti is considered the poorest country in the western hemisphere, the relationships between the people there were far from poor. I saw a tight knit community that was selfless and sacrificial, which are qualities that are not very common in American culture. The scene of people of all ages from the youth, teens, adults, and even seniors, coming together and rebuilding the church was super encouraging to see. Unity is definitely something I brought back to the states and I hope to bring back more of it this summer.
Here are some of the details of the mission trip to Haiti. For a week (July 23 - 30), I will be traveling with a team of about 15 members from Crystal Church to an island in Haiti called Ile de la Gonave. Throughout the week, we will be interacting with approximately 30 teenagers from ages 12-15. We will be teaching them about the Bible, teaching them the English language, playing sports with them, performing art activities with them, visiting villages to provide basic life necessities, building sustainable bathrooms for communities, all to display the love of Christ to the Haitian people. Along with spending time with these teenagers, we will have a medical team of doctors, nurses, and dentists in order to provide medical care to the sick.
Attempting to accomplish these goals will be no easy task, but we believe that with reliance on God’s strength, it will be possible to succeed. During our trip, we will experience tremendous joy and peace through God’s creation, but we will also face extreme spiritual, mental, and physical hardships. Therefore, we will need the support of our friends as we embark on this journey.
Would you consider joining our team by lifting us up in prayer and/or helping me raise $800? All prayers and any amount of money you are willing to offer will be truly accepted and appreciated. Thank you so much!
