Three years ago we started a wheelchair rugby team in Rochester. It’s been a great three years and we're proud to announce that this fall, the WNY Wreckers will be hosting their 2nd annual wheelchair rugby tournament, affectionately called “The Wrecking Ball.” Our tournament will take place on October 1st and 2nd at SUNY Brockport.
If you were able to catch any of the action last year, you already know that wheelchair rugby is an intense and exciting sport. If you haven’t seen it live, you’re in for an experience like nothing else. Originally known as “Murderball” because of the intensity of contact, the action is fast and the collisions are loud as players slam modified, armored wheelchairs into one another to advance the ball across the goal line to score.
Please consider donating at the following levels to be recognized on our website and in the program for the tournament: - Team Player - $500 - Biggest Fans - $250 - Groupies - $100 - Wrecking Crew - $25
Any amount is appreciated.
Our costs for the tournament include food for players and volunteers, referee time and travel expenses, equipment and supplies. Our year-round costs include rugby wheelchair purchase and repairs, practice space, registration in other tournaments, travel and hotel costs.
If you want to learn more about the Wreckers you can find us on the web, Facebook, and YouTube. Also, I hope you will come out and watch the havoc in October!
