Did you know that approximately 1 in 285 children in the U.S. will be diagnosed with cancer before the age of twenty? Cancer remains the second leading cause of death in the US, accounting for nearly 1 in every 4. And it has been predicted that there will be 23.6 million new cancer cases worldwide each year by 2030.
Since its inception in 1980 the PMC has since raised $500 million for adult and pediatric cancer care and research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) through the Jimmy Fund. In 2015, the PMC gave a record gift of $45 million. The PMC pioneered the $4 billion athletic fundraising industry and is today a model of fundraising efficiency. The event donates 100 percent of every rider raised dollar directly to the cause. In 2015, the PMC generated over 50 percent of the Jimmy Fund’s annual revenue and was Dana-Farber’s single largest contributor. More than 250,000 individual contributions were made to last year’s event.
This will be my fifth year cycling with the Boston Bruins foundation and my thirteenth year peddling across Massachusetts to make a difference and help support cancer research at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute through the Jimmy Fund.
Please join me by making the PMC your avenue to making a difference in the fight against cancer. Yes, these economic times are difficult for us all but remember, cancer takes no rest, no vacation, needs no help and is not slowed by the economy. Your tax-deductible contribution may be made through September 31, 2016. Using any of the methods listed here on my letter. Please make any checks out payable to the Boston Bruins Foundation; all of the monies collected still go directly to the Dana Farber Institute we just write one large check from the entire Bruins team. Knowing about your financial support greatly helps me with the challenge of finishing this endeavor.
