Bringing Eyecare to Belize
Team Member: Beverly Tu
EVENT DATE May 28, 2016
I learned the importance of good vision and began my fascination with the eyes when I first started wearing glasses in the first grade. I told myself that when I grow up that I will help those who may not have the proper eye care that I had as a child. Now that I am in my 2nd year of optometry school, I want to do just that.
I'm excited to be given the amazing opportunity to participate in my first mission trip with the NECO Belize team to Stann Creek, Belize this May. Our team works through a non-profit, His Servants Ministries, which helps to coordinate us with areas of the country that are in the most desperate need of care. We will be providing comprehensive eye exams, dispensing glaucoma medications, ordering prescription glasses, and referrals for ocular surgeries. Blindness and sometimes even death can be prevented through early detection and treatment during our trip. Last year, the team saw over 800 patients in 5 days!
To make this trip possible for me to attend, I must raise $1800. I humbly ask you to consider donating a small amount to my cause. Your tax-deductible donation will enable us to travel to Belize and provide glasses, sun protection, referrals for surgery, and medication to underserved communities in Stann Creek.
This will be a very humbling experience as I hope to impact and improve others’ lives. No amount is small-- every dollar counts!
