BENEFITING: CHICAGO AREA RUNNERS ASSOC
ORGANIZER: CHICAGO AREA RUNNERS ASSOC
Hello friends and family, as you may know I have caught the running bug the last few years, my family and I have run some 5Ks and 10Ks together and I’ve recently ran a half marathon. My final goal is to run the Chicago Marathon this October. However, I wanted the experience to be more meaningful so I’ve decided to run for CARA Road Scholars. The Chicago Area Runners Association (CARA) is a nonprofit organization that supports underprivileged teens by sponsoring the CARA Road Scholars program. This program is an innovative approach to inspiring excellence in Chicago youth. This intervention program challenges teens to train for and complete the Rock ‘n’ Roll Chicago half marathon. Road Scholars uses running to teach at risk youth important lessons about commitment, dedication, and discipline, while improving self-esteem and worth. Students who participate in the program do not pay to participate. All of the equipment and fees are paid for by CARA. CARA staff undertakes continued fund-raising efforts to fully support the students. CARA provides each student who commits to the philosophy and rules of the program technical clothes and running shoes, transportation to and from the training sites, race entries fees, and post-run refreshments, pre-race pasta dinner and race entries for a 5K and Rock ‘n’ Roll Chicago Half Marathon.
My goal is to raise $600.00 by September 15th for this terrific charity. I know financially its not always a good time, but any little bit can help these students. I am truly grateful for any contribution you can make.
Thank you for your time and generosity,
