BENEFITING: BRIGHT PINK
ORGANIZER: BRIGHT PINK
EVENT DATE: Oct 09, 2016
Hello friends and family!
This year I am running for my brave and beautiful mother and aunt, who kicked breast cancer's a...booty! Censored for you too, mom. For my sister, who moved home to support our mom every day; and my entire, enormous, amazing family for being there for us, for each other, and sticking together through so much crap over the past few years. Suck it, cancer!
Now we all know I've never been good at expressing my feelings; well, ones of the sappy, sentimental nature anyway. I did not know how to process anything when I found out my aunt, then my mother were diagnosed. My sister told me about Bright Pink and we signed up for a yoga event they sponsored one super early Sunday morning, which we didn't end up making it to (don't recall why......) BUT I went to another event shortly after and met an amazing group of girls who were going through the same thing. They became my outlet in my home away from home, and gave me the resources to learn what my mom was going through and how to assess my own risk.
This is a cause that's very special to me and I'm so proud to be supporting Bright Pink this year! If you are able, any support you can provide to this amazing cause would make a difference.
Thank you for your support!
In 2016, runners competing in the Bank of America Chicago Marathon will rally together to raise over $200,000 for charity partner Bright Pink. $200,000 has the power to educate and potentially save the lives of nearly 50,000 young women through Bright Pink’s educational programs.
We run our for our moms, our sisters, our friends… ourselves. We believe the women we love deserve a world free from breast and ovarian cancer.
WHAT BRIGHT PINK IS DOING ABOUT CANCER
Bright Pink is a national nonprofit that empowers young women to reduce their risk of breast and ovarian cancer and detect these diseases early while they’re still treatable. Our free educational programs make prevention and early detection a persistent and positive part of their lives.
WHY IT MATTERS
1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. 1 in 67 will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Just being a woman puts you at risk.
BRIGHT PINK STATISTICS
Bright Pink has helped 210,000+ women identify their cancer risk and empowered them with tools to reduce it. Equally as important, we’ve also taught 4,000 women’s health providers how to best identify and manage risk among their patients, thereby reaching 16 million patients with better breast and ovarian health care.
