EVENT DATE: Oct 09, 2016
I am running for my mom. This Chicago Marathon is for her and for the strenght that she showed as she was fighting ovarian cancer. For 9 months, she went through chemo and radiation to fight this deadly disease and for a moment, we all believed that she beat it. The cancer came back and it came back in full force. We continued to fight it but it just took over her body and she did not have the physical strength anymore. Her spirit and thirst for life was what kept her alive during the last few weeks but on 09/4/2015 she took her last breath with her family.
Ovarian cancer is the fifth leading cause of cancer-related death among women, and is the deadliest of gynecologic cancers. The relative five-year survival rate for ovarian cancer is 46 percent. Survival rates vary greatly depending on the stage of diagnosis. Women diagnosed at an early stage—before the cancer has spread—have a much higher five-year survival rate than those diagnosed at a later stage. Approximately 15 percent of ovarian cancer patients are diagnosed early with early stage disease.
Please help me meet my goal and donate to increase awareness of ovarian cancer. Anything is helpful!
