2016 Chicago Marathon for the MS Society
Organized by: Brittany Stephen
Event Name: 2016 Bank of America Chicago Marathon
EVENT DATE Oct 09, 2016
I am running the 2016 Chicago Marathon on behalf of my good friend Sarah Olson, who has Multiple Sclerosis. All donations will go to the National MS Society! I am so excited for the opportunity to Race to Stop MS.
Sarah, who is an ambassador for the National MS Society, and I met in 2010 at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, TX. That same year, she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Sarah has to not only go to routine doctor visits, but also sometimes spontaneously has to go to the emergency room. Outside of these, she also runs into other issues, such as dietary problems/restrictions, and she also sometimes uses a device called a Bioness to help her walk. However, through all of this, she remains the most upbeat and optimistic person I've ever met! She is always smiling and finds the positives in every situation. I don't know how she does it, but she is an inspiration! It certainly makes me think twice when I complain about a cold. She is determined to push through anything life throws at her. A couple years ago she had to use a walker. After several physical therapy visits she is now able to run and is training to run a 5K with me on January 16, 2016! I hope it is the first of many.
Please help me reach my goal of raising $1,000 to run the Chicago Marathon in the Race to Stop MS! I am also doing a challenge to run 2016 miles in 2016. I attempted the challenge in 2015 and completed just over half of it. I am raising money per mile I run in 2016 here (https://rallyup.com/2016-miles-to-a-cure ) in addition to this Chicago Marathon fundraiser! Those funds will also go the National MS Society.
If you are in the Houston area, please stay tuned for local events, walks, and fundraisers put on by Miss Sarah herself! Also, check out my Facebook page for updates and to follow along the journey! https://www.facebook.com/2016milestoacure/
