March of Dimeshas played a major role in improving the health of each baby born today with 4 million babies each year. The March of Dimes has helped each and every one of them through our research, education, vaccines and breakthroughs. We stand for a solution to bring babies home healthy. But sometimes that is not the outcome. Premature birth is the leading cause of death in children under the age of 5. One in ten babies is born prematurely.
The United States is ranked 151st out of the world for premature birth. This can lead to a lifetime of healthcare challenges which cost families thousands of dollars. An average medical cost for a healthy baby is $4,389 and the average medical cost for a premature baby is $54,194. Preventing premature birth in Iowa, could mean an annual savings up to $223 million.
The mission of the March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. We are focused on advancing research on maternal and health issues, helping moms have healthy pregnancies and supporting families. We are working to give every baby a fighting chance.
We thank you in advance for your generous support to this year's Signature Chefs Auction. Our hope is that one day every baby will be born healthy!
