Joy to the World Kindergarten, Namibia Africa
In Namibia, Africa, children under 7 usually do not have the chance to go to pre-school. In 2008, a wonderful, loving Anglican nun named Sister Gertrude saw that many of the children in the Owambo Tribe were spending these important, formative years alone in their huts without any chance to learn to read, write, sing or play together. With no backing and no supplies, she bravely invited the village to send their children to a brand new kindergarten called “Joy to the World". Today, with the generous support of friends and strangers alike, Sister Gertrude has a thriving kindergarten which is making great strides to become self-sustaining. Each year, 70 children are given a head start on the path to a good education, with a goal of fostering future professionals and leaders of Namibia. Funds are needed to cover the 2016 school budget, provide solar power and to turn an abandoned, bat-infested building into a wonderful dining hall/activities room for the children.
