EVENT: One Step Away's 2017 Big Sell Off

EVENT DATE: Feb 09, 2017

THE STORY:

On May 29, 2015, Brittany walked through One Step Away’s doors to become a vendor. That year, Brittany was homeless twice, stayed in four places, and was sleeping on the streets for five months before coming to us.

“I didn’t feel comfortable panhandling, but it’s hard to get a job when you’re homeless.” Brittany is referring to the countless barriers individuals without homes can face: “You can’t shower, you can’t change your clothes.” Even if you are lucky enough to shower, other barriers such as no internet, mailing address, or cell phone, make it hard to find a job or for an employer to contact you.

Brittany is grateful to now be a One Step Away vendor. Every month, Brittany along with 60 other individuals make a living distributing One Step Away papers on the streets of Philadelphia.

To continue our mission of creating jobs and advocating for social change, we are hosting the 2017 Big Sell Off, bringing together influential community members to distribute papers alongside a One Step Away vendor. The Big Sell Off is an international collaboration focused on raising awareness to the issues of homelessness worldwide.

The funds raised from the event will allow us to provide our vendors with work gear like hats, bags, vests, and other items to keep them safe and visible when they are on the street.

Support One Step Away today so our vendors can make an honest living in the best way possible!

Because of you, Brittany can now proudly say, “One Step Away has helped me build myself up. This is how I got off the street, and this is how I stay off the street.”

Donate today.

One Step Away is a program of Resources for Human Development (RHD) a certified 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
