THE STORY:

Be part of our raffle! Donate!! As most of you know we are creating one of a kind art jewelry here at petra class studio in San Francisco. Maybe some of you also know that Petra has practiced Aikido for almost 30 years now and is still very actively involved in the Aikido community? At times we donate pieces of jewelry towards a cause and the one you can read about further down the line is especially dear to our hearts. So we decided to raffle a pair of our Infinity earrings (see above) between the supporters of our fundraiser. Aikido is the art of peace and conflict resolution and we want those young African Aikido students to be able to make the trip to the seminar! Read on below to get all the information and watch the BBC movie on Aikido in Ethiopia..... The 2017 East African Seminar, a collaboration between Aikido Ethiopia and the African Union Peace Initiative, will represent the first of its kind. It will take place from November 16 - 19, 2017. Young Africans from Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, Tanzania, Uganda, and Djibouti will have the unique opportunity to learn from world renowned international experts in Aikido, embodied leadership, somatic education, and conflict resolution. The workshop will also bring respected East African elders to share their wisdom and ancient traditions in resolving conflict. This provides a unique stage that places African tools and approaches to leadership and conflict resolution on par with Western and Asian practices and perspectives. African young adults, as well as their non-African peers, will be part of this rich cultural exchange between ancient traditions of African nations, and global perspectives of non-African teachers. Aikido is a modern Japanese martial art developed in the 1930’s by Morihei Ueshiba as a synthesis of his martial studies, community building and self-transformation as a combatant in war. This transformation fueled his dedication to building a martial art that is focused on peace. Aikido is an art of peace, whose aim and philosophy is to diffuse internal and interpersonal aggression through nonviolent techniques. Aikido is currently practiced by more than one million people around the world, furthering the founder’s vision of Aikido as “a way to reconcile the world.” The 2017 East African Seminar will serve as an unprecedented cultural exchange and collaboration for peace. It will be organized by Aikido Ethiopia and Strozzi Institute in collaboration with the African Union Peace Summit. We are also working towards the completion of the Aikido Ethiopia Dojo in Hawassa. Our commitment is to raise $25,000 in order to support the attendance and participation of 100% of the African attendees. Please make a donation and/or join our team as a fundraiser and help bring the seminar to life! Thank you for your support.
