Running London Marathon... Half-way there!!
March 17, 2017
BENEFITING: Save the Children
EVENT DATE: Apr 23, 2017
DAY TO GO
On Apr 23rd, 2017 I will be running the last of the 6 World Marathon Majors (WMM). In the past ~10 years I ran the other 5 WMM mostly for personal reasons - staying in shape, breaking personal records. I can't think of a better way to close the circle and complete the WMM than by fundraising for a cause that is close to my heart: giving children from underprivileged backgrounds access to development opportunities, a chance for a better life.
My family traces its roots to a Romanian village of less than 2,000 people. Children access to healthcare and formal education is not a given in such a place... and this is not by any means a local problem:
- according to UNICEF 1 billion children live in poverty and 22,000 die each day due to poverty
- 165 million children under the age of 5 were stunted (reduced rate of growth and development)
By the end of the 2017 London Marathon I would have run an estimated ~6,500 km in training and racing. Please join me in raising $6,500 as a contribution to Save the Children, an organization I support and believe in.
In 2015, Save the Children worked in 120 countries and helped 185 million children. By 2030 they aim to ensure that "every last child has the opportunity to live a healthy, productive life". So I'll do what I've been doing for the past ~10 years, I'll run... this time however, for a great cause.
Thank you, Mugurel Florea
