Hello friends and family! This summer I am running the Falmouth Road Race in Cape Cod for the 7th time in August. The race is 7.3 miles and there are over 13,000 runners each year! This year I am excited to run and fundraise in support of Soccer Without Borders, an organization that serves refugee youth both in the US and internationally with kids through adults in more than 60 different countries. Through my own soccer experiences, I have grown as a person, a teammate, and a leader while finding a community of people that truly enjoy being around. Soccer Without Borders brings this kind of experience to people all around the world and goes above and beyond its own borders. Many of the participants and their families have fled some of the world's most challenging conflicts, hailing from the Central African Republic, Somalia, Afghanistan, Congo, Eritrea, Honduras, El Salvador, Burma, Burundi, Iraq, and most recently Syria, among many more. These refugees are one of the most vulnerable populations in the world as nearly 30 MILLION CHILDREN are displaced from their home countries. Fleeing your country, your home, is not a decision that any family should make or go through. But in all of this, the soccer field is one of the few places where these kids and youth who have experienced this kind of transition immediately feel confident, counted, and discover an ability to express themselves to people care. Soccer Without Borders equips these kids with the tools and confidence to overcome adversity and reach their inherent potential, a message and cause that I have experienced myself and desire to support and share with others. To me, soccer has always felt like more than a just a sport, it is a worldwide family. And being part of something bigger than yourself is something that everyone deserves and strives to find. For these kids who lost their country and the thing that united them with so any other people, soccer has become their new family and the support they need to live a better life. Any donation you can make will be greatly appreciated and will go a long way to supporting these children and their confidence in themselves and their lives going forward.
