BENEFITING: HERREN PROJECT
ORGANIZER: HERREN PROJECT
EVENT DATE: Mar 19, 2017
As a young girl, falling in love with the game of basketball, I was inspired by Bill Reynolds’ book, Fall River Dreams, the story of young Chris Herren's high school basketball team at Durfee High. I enjoyed reading about gyms I had played in and was amazed that a local kid could play for the Boston Celtics.
As a high school student, I learned that there was much more depth to Chris's basketball journey when I heard him speak at Tabor Academy. He told his hell-and-back story of addiction and captivated his impressionable audience. Chris, again inspired me, but with a story much more important and deeper than any of his successes as a basketball player will ever be to me.
I had the honor of getting to know Chris through basketball as a senior in high school and freshman in college through early morning workouts with my younger sister, Allie. Although I am blessed to say that I have never struggled from addiction, Chris’s story has given me the strength to make the right decisions, regarding drugs and alcohol time and time again. I also appreciate Chris’s efforts to help others suffering from addiction as I have those close to me that could use an ally in the fight. Although I wish I could do more, I feel privileged to be able to make an impact in some way, however small, by raising money for The Herren Project. Please join me in assisting those suffering from addiction in their journey towards recovery.
