BENEFITING: BRIGHT PINK
ORGANIZER: BRIGHT PINK
EVENT DATE: Oct 08, 2017
In 2017, I plan on running in honor of my mom, now a breast cancer survivor. I alongside my sister will run together as we celebrate a year of our mom being cancer free!
Mommy Di's Story:
In June 2016 my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer in both breasts. It completely rocked our families world. Mine included, especially as someone who works for a Healthcare Foundation. Naturally, I wanted to take action and I reached out to the many breast cancer survivors and doctors I knew through my work connections. I couldn't believe the support and love I recieved but also how extended out to my mom, not that she needed it, she's the strongest most firece woman I know.
She was given a diagnoses of stage 2 in her right breast and stage 1 in her left, a breast cancer diagnoses that 80% of woman postmenopause receive.
With many options she decided on a lumpectomy with radiation post surgery. The surgery lasted 6-hours and it took her almost a month of recovery. She then went onto radiation, luckily because the margins were so good she only needed 16 days. Now 6-months after being diagnosed she has now begun the Survivorship Program at Northwestern. My mom is extremley lucky, lucky that there is so much research, awareness and educational programs for breast cancer in Chicago. All these programs that would not be possible without philanthropy.
Without fundrasing support my mom might not have had the care she had. I ask that you join me and donate to this wonderful cause that has touched me so personally.
I would also like to invite you to cheer me on at the Bank of America Chicago Marathon on October 8, 2017.
