The Experience of a Lifetime
July 09, 2017
I am writing to ask for your support in my upcoming bicycle journey on the Ride For the Living in Poland. Ride For the Living is an annual fundraising event under the patronage of Chief Rabbi of Poland, Michael Schudrich. The 55-mile bicycle ride from Auschwitz-Birkenau to JCC Krakow is a journey to not only remember Jewish history, but to celebrate and support the miraculous rebirth of Jewish life in Poland today, energized by the opening of the Krakow JCC a few short years ago.
I have followed with great interest the progress of the JCC Krakow and the growing support for this Ride, as I have always been curious about Poland. My grandfather Morris (Davidowitz) Davis came to America before WWII from Lodz, Poland. He was raised by relatives after losing his mother early to illness. Throughout my childhood, he told me many tales of survival while on the run from the army, trying to get a Visa to the US.
During my trip, I will visit Lodz and bear withness to this part of my family history. I will also bear witness to the horror of Auschwitz, the reality of the holocaust, and its aftermath in Poland today.
The ride ends at a place of hope, the JCC Krakow, where all of us riders will be joined by members of the local Jewish community and friends from around the world.
The 2017 Ride For The Living will take place from June 22 - 25, 2017. Ride For The Living consists of 4 days of educational programs, tours of Krakow, Shabbat dinner with the community, and the highlight of event, the bike ride. Join the Jewish community and friends from around the world by riding or donating today. To learn more about Ride For The Living, please visit our webpage: www.ridefortheliving.org
