Dear Famiy and Friends:
From childhood, I have felt a deep personal connection to the horrific events of the Holocaust. Some of you know that my father, David Dobres, along with his brother Nathan and their parents Jacob (my namesake) and Leah (for whom my daughter is named) fled their home in Makow, Poland in an effort to avoid the fate that shattered - but did not break - the Jewish people. My father, uncle, and grandparents miraculously managed to stay together and survive the Nazi attrocities on the run. My father never returned to Poland after emigrating to the United States in 1949. I will be travelling to Poland this June in his memory, and in memory of all of the victims and survivors.
Ride for the Living allows me to combine my love of cycling with my family history. Please consider making a donation to ensure that the Krakow Jewish community continues to thrive. Together we will never forgtet.
