Do you see that picture? How fun are those kids?
Answer: Super fun
In addition to being super fun, these students are also really hard working. If you look closely at the picture, you will see alongside SAT prep materials on each desk is a slice of pizza, pizza that was awarded to the class with the most improved scores (!). What you can't see from looking at this picture is that these students are taking the SAT to apply to schools like Princeton, CalTech, UCLA, Cal Poly Pomona, and CSUN. And you know what? There's a good chance that these students will be on some of those campuses next year.
Did I mention that our kids are incredible? Because they are! As a first generation college student, I am so grateful for the privilege to receive the education I have and the experiences I've garnered, but there was so much I wish I had known sooner or done differently. That's why I do what I do - to help fill the gap. Like me, the majority of our students will be/are the first in their families to go to college, but they have fewer resources and less support than I did. Despite that, they are undeterred. Our high school students come in week after week to curate school lists, to fill out applications, and to write draft after draft of their personal statements even when it means that they can only apply to as many colleges as they have fee waivers for or that they can only work on applications when they have access to a computer. And while working with them, I see that these students are going to be mature college students who won't waste the opportunities given to them.
CAP doesn't work with just high school students either. We provide resources and support to our students through college. That's part of what I do with our I Heart College alumni. We work to help our students who are struggling with the transition to college expectations and culture, with deciding whether or not to transfer, with deciding whether or not to change majors, or with whatever else they need. Some of our alumni even come back to help and share their learning experiences because like I said, our students are incredible.
What's great about CAP is that we don't turn anyone away. We help students get to where they want to be, because we don't think it's our decision to tell students they can't apply somewhere. And, once they enroll at a school of their choice, we continue to provide resources and support to help our students succeed in college. So please help me and College Access Plan support our students' efforts to DREAM BIGGER by donating to this fundraiser! The stakes are pretty high with this one.
The All Ways Up Foundation will MATCH every dollar raised through this page up to $15,000. That's $30,000 for CAP -- 10% of our annual cash budget!
Only donations received between November 30th and December 31st on THIS SITE will count.
Your gift will be matched dollar for dollar, so there's no more important time to give to CAP!
