BENEFITING: No Kid Hungry
Each year for my birthday I try to set some sort of challenge for myself. This year, my target is a piece of unfinished business. Despite enjoying a successful track & field career as a Triple Jumper through college, I was never able to cross the 20-foot barrier in its sister event, the Long Jump.
Now, a whole bunch of years later, I'm picking up where I left off and have begun training to try to finally go beyond that 20' threshold this spring. I'm asking you to come along on this journey too, and at the same time help me raise some money for a great organization called No Kid Hungry.
NKH has a simple theory: Kids who have food in their bellies do better in school and in life, and too many young children in this country don't have food in their bellies.
I have a theory of my own: That I'm going to sail beyond that 20' mark, and then I'm going to send all the money you pledge plus a donation of my own to No Kid Hungry.
How difficult will this all be? Well, it's been something like two decades since my last LJ attempt, so I'm guessing pretty difficult. But I'll be enlisting some talented folks to help me out, and I'll be posting updates to this site so you can see my progress as I go.
No donation amount is too small, and I mean that. Really. Thank you for your (extremely safe, 100% tax deductible) contributions -- and for the support, everyone. Are you ready? Here goes...
