21st Century Education

According to the Software & Information Industry Association, 81% of teachers feel that mobile devices and apps enrich classroom education, but finding educational apps that have been vetted and curated by fellow educators on the large app stores is a tedious process for busy educators. 21st Century Education’s mission is to solve this problem through 21Teach, a mobile learning library of free educational apps that is vetted and curated by educators to help teachers find apps for their students and parents that align educational standards.
We launched an open beta in June 2014, available on the iTunes and iOS stores that contained over 500 pieces of free STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) apps that aligned and matched to Common Core state standards. The app was organically downloaded over 600 times and as a result, we were invited to attend 3 Edsurge (Techcrunch for Edtech) Summits: St. Louis, Seattle, and Silicon Valley.
At these summits, 92% of teachers said they would use this product. Teachers expressed that they want to use the product because they can trust that fellow educators are suggesting the apps and writing the reviews, not the content producer. We are re-launching 21Teach based on the feedback we received during the open beta with features that include: English, Social Studies, and Special Education content, a content management platform called the “filing cabinet”, and an improved user rating system.
Our process for curating educational apps is time consuming, it takes anywhere between 30 minutes to 1 hour for one of our teachers to curate one piece of content. We need help hiring more teachers accomplish our goal to curate 500 pieces of free apps so teachers, students, and parents can benefit from having access to quality educational apps for the start of the 2015-2016 school year.
We are a team of students, educators, parents and technologist that believe, “We can’t solve tomorrow’s problems with yesterday’s tools” and we want to empower teachers to teach.
