Some of the best young artists of New York will create a franchise centered around pulp hero Dock Doyle! A dozen of the New York's best artists, writers, creators, and what-have-you are coming together to produce a transmedia franchise in twenty-four hours. Help them out by donating to fight cancer!
The star? Dock Doyle, a rough-and-tumble adventure hero in the mold of '30's-style action serials.
The product? A self-published book that will recount his many adventures in a story-within-a-story format, featuring the "real" writers of Dock Doyle sharing their favorite adventures in a story-within-a-story format.
The time? This May!
The proceeds? All going to the American Cancer Society! You will be helping beat back the scourge known as cancer! Everybody who donates $5 or more gets a copy of the resulting project! You want a hard copy? Please contact 24HourTransmedia@gmail.com, and we'll make it happen. What more could you need?
Well, how about some information...
WHAT IS TRANSMEDIA
Transmedia (n): The process by which a story is told across multiple media platforms.
This can take a number of different pathways, from augmented reality games to interactive social media experiences to large-scale rollouts of entertainment franchises. 24-Hour Transmedia is aiming for this last bit, telling numerous stories for our hero, Dock Doyle, across a number of media from some of the young, cool, hip talent of New York (see below)!
WHO IS DOCK DOYLE?
Imagine if Indiana Jones and James Bond were thrown into a mad scientist's laboratory experiment. The resulting monstrosity... er, character, would be Dock Doyle, a suave and confident man of mystery who has been featured in dozens of comic books, radio plays, TV shows, animated series, novels, short stories, RPG's, and what-have-you since his emergence in the 1920s.
The real Dock Doyle disappeared into obscurity sometime before the second World War, but his adventures live on. Creators have embraced the many facets of the characters, from the action to the romance to the tongue-in-cheek comedy to drama.
This is a meta-textual adventure of grand proportions. Spanning the globe and dozens of years, creators take a piece of these fictitious serials and storylines to create an arching narrative that showcases how tastes, times, and politics change the nature of the stories that we create.
Please note that this is all fictional. Every bit of it, even the stuff with the Nazi-Communist-Mutant-Aliens. Oh, I didn't mention that bit? Then forget I mentioned anything about it, citizen.
WHAT IS TWENTY-FOUR HOUR TRANSMEDIA?
Twenty-four hour plays create stageplays in twenty-four hours. Twenty-four hour comics create comics in twenty-four hours. So, what does twenty-four hour transmedia do?
Very good! It creates a transmedia campaign that will be packed into a bitsy yet beefy package, brimming with pulp adventure that harkens back to the stories and genres of yesteryear.
We will be writing plays, radio dramas, drawing cartoons, live tweeting, social media... the whole shebang! Who knows what we'll come up with? Even we don't! It has to happen within twenty-four hours!
