I'm incredibly excited to be running the 2017 NYC Marathon as a member of Team 25:40, raising money for hundreds of orphans and other vulnerable children in South Africa’s rural, poverty-stricken Eastern Cape.
Through my intense passion to travel, I've been fortunate enough to see so many countries, so many landscapes, and so many different cultures. Although I'm always surprised by the wonders of the world and each new place I travel to, I'm always grateful to call South Africa home. It's such a beautiful country with a diverse culture, but it remains widely stricken with poverty.
Now, living abroad, I'm often troubled by the thought of how to make a difference back home - and this is my effort to give less fortunate children in South Africa a fighting chance to rise above the effects of poverty, disease and violence that is so pervasive.
My goal is to raise $2,500 to fund the after care program of a little boy called Monezi. He is 10 years old, living with his single and unemployed mother. This fundraiser will pay for the aftercare program that will give Monezi the support he needs to have a fighting chance to overcome the chalenges of his living situation.
I've (probably) met most of you somewhere along the journey travelling and have proclaimed how wonderful South Africa is. Now I ask a small favour, to help me reach my goal to make a difference in the county I so dearly love and to make a difference in the life of Monezi.
