THE STORY:

Why I'm running with the 261 Fearless Boston Marathon Charity Team!
261 Fearless truly has an inspiring goal to empower women through running around the globe.  Personally, I run fearlessly with chronic Lyme disease. I was told I’d never run again when I was misdiagnosed with fibromyalgia at 25 years young! I was temporarily paralyzed for 6 months upon being bit by a tick and contracting Lyme disease. I had to rely on crutches for mobility to even get out of bed! Those crutches remained by my bedside for Fifteen Years! After living in chronic pain and with chronic fatigue for so many years, I found the courage to push myself and started to slowly run. In one year, I went from 0 miles to finishing my first marathon at age 40 years young! It was during my training, I was experiencing pain in my elbows and wrists and extreme fatigue. I was tested for Lyme disease and was told I had tested positive for a "past infection of Lyme disease and most likely, had been re-infected b/c of my new symptoms." I took antibiotics for two months and thought I was healed. And I haven’t stopped running since! A few years ago, I started experiencing pain in my ankle bone and after the diagnostic test results came back, I was diagnosed with chronic Lyme disease. This setback only made me more determined to manage my pain symptoms through running and holistic treatment! I have ran several marathons and ultra marathons, including the Umstead 100 miler in 2015. The Boston Marathon is my dream race but my hip joints are too damaged to run fast enough in order to qualify for the Boston Marathon so this is why I chose to make a difference and run on a charity team that I believed in! I’m honored to be running with Kathrine Switzer and the 261 Fearless charity team! I can say from experience that running really does change lives. After crossing my first Marine Corps Marathon in 2010, I felt like I could accomplish anything! Thank you for donating to 261 Fearless to help change women's lives around the world and for helping my dream come true by supporting me on my fearless journey to the Boston Marathon 2017! I MUST reach my fundraising goal by APRIL 13th at MIDNIGHT! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SUPPORTING 261 FEARLESS!!!

261 Fearless wrote -

261 Fearless, Inc. is a global non-profit organization founded by pioneer runner, Kathrine Switzer. 261 Fearless uses running as a vehicle to empower and unite women globally through the creation of communication platforms, clubs, training opportunities, ambassadors, merchandising and events. Through these networking opportunities, 261 Fearless breaks down the barriers of geography and creates a global community for women runners of all abilities to support and talk to each other, encouraging healthy living and a positive sense of self and fearlessness.

It is the mission of 261 Fearless to bring active women together through a global supportive community – allowing fearless women to pass strength gained from running and walking onto women who are facing challenges and hence sparking a revolution of empowerment.  261 is the symbol that unites us as empowered runners and walkers.

The 2017 Boston Marathon is the 50th Anniversary of Kathrine's historic run as the first woman to run the marathon, wearing an official race bib (261) in the all-male event.  She had to fend off an angry race director at mile two.  After finishing that race, Kathrine dedicated her life to providing opportunities around the world for women to run. 261 Fearless, Inc. is the legacy of inclusion and empowerment that she will pass to others.  All fundraisers on TEAM 261 FEARLESS will line up on the Boston Marathon start line with Kathrine to celebrate another half century of women running. Together, we celebrate fearlessness on the streets of Boston.

The funds raised will go to setting up global 261 Clubs, training programs, a powerful communications network and events so that women, many in fearful places, are made fearless by your efforts.   In particular, we need the ability to bring our 261 Club model of social, non-competitive running to women all over the world; we know creating the community of running women transforms them, and we need to get our training and support team out into the communities who need and want a club the most.
