BENEFITING: NEW YORK UNIVERSITY
EVENT DATE: Nov 04, 2012
My grandmother, Yiayia, is a firecracker, a force of nature, a hilarious, quick witted, sweet, generous woman who gives love and kindness to everyone she meets. If you've ever had the pleasure of meeting Yiayia, you know firsthand how truly wonderful she is and how wonderful it feels to be around her. Yiayia played a significant role in my upbringing, and among many things, I owe her my knack for greek cooking and my love of big earrings.
Yiayia suffers from Dementia and Parkinson's Disease, which affects the functioning of her daily life. My family is very devoted to her health and cares for her at home. It is a difficult task, but it is a true testimony to the love, dedication and giving nature of our family.
I'm running the ING NYC Marathon in honor of my Yiayia and my family who cares for her. All proceeds from this fundraising page will go toward the Center of Excellence on Brain Aging at New York University Langone Medical Center. The Center of Excellence on Brain Aging is devoted to the understanding, treatment, cure and prevention of aging-related cognitive decline through translational research, education and evidence-based geriatric care.(http://aging.med.nyu.edu/)
With your donation, you can help lots of Yiayias, Nannas, Grannies and Grandmas all over the world.
