I have the honor to run the 2016 Boston Marathon and have decided to raise funds for the Conquer Cancer Coalition of Massachusetts.
Why did I chose them? Well for those that know me and have seen my license plate, I have supported the Conquer Cancer Coalition since their early days when all they wanted to do was get a license plate in the state of Massachusetts to support people and families battling a cancer diagnosis and to bring a community together as part of a hope and healing initiative.
On Father's day in 2006 is when the first CC license plates were sent out to Massachusetts drivers and I am proud to say that my CC 881 was part of the early initiative. Fitting that the license plates went out on a day that has been painful for me since my father passed away from cancer in 1999. That Christmas Day of 1999 will forever be etched in my mind, the sunrise that morning and the sun that day was brighter than any other day I can remember. When I am up in the morning putting in long miles I remember that he is bringing me the sun as he did that day he left us, as comfort and for us to know that he is still with us.
The license plate for me and many in Massachusetts is an image of hope and they depicted this in the image on the plate. An eternal flame for the hope that there will soon be a cure, a teardrop for those we love and those we have lost, a sailboat for when we have to adjust our own sails, a sunrise or a sunset, depending on how you feel, and lastly a star to wish on and to help lead the way.
But their efforts to raise funds and help fund their hope & healing initiative didn't stop there. In 2010 they started the Garden of Hope which is located in Boston's City Hall Plaza on the Congress Street side. Which was a forgotten spot in Boston that has been transformed into heartfelt and meaningful garden where bricks and plaques for loved ones are displayed.
I hope you consider a donation to help the Conquer Cancer Coalition continue their hope and healing initiative along with their many partners trying to end cancer and help families much like mine.
I run in loving memory of: Alfred J. Zonghi Sr., Robert Zonghi, Sandy Zonghi, Alfred J. Zonghi Jr., Mary Grandoni, Barry Bomzer, Eric Breitenbach, & Justin Fitch
