On December 2, 2012, I will be running the California International Marathon and I am taking the opportunity to raise funds for Organs R Us. Every year for the past 5 years, the Pigs in Pursuit relay team has participated in The Relay, a 200 mile relay run from Calistoga to Santa Cruz that raises money for Organs R Us. This year we were not able to enter because of scheduling conflicts and shift shortages, so I decided to run the marathon as a way to raise money.
Organs R Us (ORU) is a California based non-profit organization that promotes organ donation through athletics. ORU has generated publicity regarding the shortage of organ donors worth more than $25 million, supported transplant families facing life threatening illness, provided scholarships to attend the Transplant Olympics and purchased computers used to register organ donors online. Of 110,000 Americans waiting for transplants, 20 die each day before a donor is found.
Please support me in one or more of the following ways:
2. Discuss your wishes regarding organ donation with your family.
3. Register as an organ donor.
4. Train with me. Email me or call me to set up a training run. In general, my training schedule includes middle distance runs on Sat and Mon, hills or mid distance on Tues, speed work on Sun, and a long run on Thurs. I am always looking for new places to run and new people to run with. My schedule is flexible.
In the long run, organ donation saves lives.
