BENEFITING: The A21 Campaign
EVENT DATE: May 04, 2014
There are more slaves in the world today than at any other point in human history, with an estimated 27 million in bondage across the globe. Men, women, and children are being exploited for manual and sexual labor against their will.
I heard about the a21 campaign a few months ago, listening to a Christine Caine Podcast, it was a moment where I was challenged to hold back tears, thinking that human beings can treat one another as nothing more than a cheap sample sale in Chelsea Market was almost unfathomable. Men, women, and children being exploited for manual and sexual labor is a heart wrenching, gut wrenching thought. The gravity of this evil shook me. As human beings we face our own struggles and hardships, I myself grew up in a home that had a made for TV movie exterior, but on the inside there was alcoholism, drug abuse, infidelity, but when you juxtapose your hardship with the plight of human slavery, it almost seems like your life was a walk in the park. Human trafficking began in my imagination, envisioning my sister, mother, niece- being bought and sold like produce at whole foods. My heart broke. My mission and goal over the next few months is to train and prepare for the Pittsburgh Marathon. My love for people supersedes my hatred for running and broke down those 26.2 miles into 26 lives that can and will be saved. Please join in raising awareness and funds for this incredible life changing organization.
